Elon Musk is battling against foreign censorship amid pressure from Brazil and Australia, both of which are trying to extend their censorship laws internationally. Meanwhile, a bill that will ban TikTok unless its parent company sells it before Jan. 19, 2025, has now been enacted. President Joe Biden signed the bill on April 24 after the Senate passed it in a 70 to 18 vote. Former President Donald Trump had warned that banning TikTok could create a tech monopoly for other social networks like Facebook, and other concerns were raised that the language of the legislation could give a president the ability to go after other platforms.
