Navigating Digital Ecosystems & Transforming Strategy with Yolande Chan

Digital technologies today are highly generic and highly specific at the same time – even a mobile phone is also a translator, a map and an entertainment system – complicating the design of organizational strategy. In the latest episode of the Delve podcast, Dean of the Desautels Faculty of Management and James McGill Professor Yolande Chan discusses a “digital ecodynamics” approach to organizational strategy, where technology is at the core of strategy from the start. This strategic lens encourages organizations to examine their own digital ecosystems within a climate of constant change, from the multiple technologies co-existing within an organization to the potential paths toward knowledge and innovation. “If you look at an organization that wants to grow in an environment that is uncertain, a lot of experimentation can be done very inexpensively using digital tools,” says Chan. “See the technology that you already have and strategically use that technology.”Read more on Delve and read the transcript. For more insights, listen to the full interview with Yolande Chan and read the accompanying article on Delve.
