Boxing Fitness - Pro Boxer Steve Ormand- Episode 70

On this weeks episode of the podcast Matt sat down and spoke with former professional boxer Steve Ormand.  Steve talked about his love for boxing and how boxing's been part of my life since I was about four years of age.  His father Patrick was an All Ireland amateur lightweight champion and my grandfather and several uncles on both sides of the family were boxers, so he grew up listening to all the stories about boxing. Steve's uncle Greg was a boxing coach, so he first went to the boxing gym at the age of six or seven and had his first amateur bout around the age of 11. Steve talked about the people that were his inspirations growing up and his times sparring former WBA Super-Bantamweight champion Bernard Dunne, who was also from Clondalkin. Steve was coached for a while by his father Brendan, a 1976 Montreal Olympian. Steve talked about the commitment and dedication in life as a professional boxer. Steve and Matt spoke about the impacted of amateur boxing clubs have of communities in working class area's. Steve is now working as a boxing fitness coach. Steve works with kids and adults, ages ranging from six to 60 years of age. Thanks to Steve for coming onto the show and sharing his story.
