Empowered women empower woman - Tory Archbold interviews co-founder of CEO Magazine, Anna Dutton.

In this episode of the Powerful Stories Podcast, host Tory Archbold sits with Anna Dutton, co-founder of CEO Magazine, a woman who firmly believes that stepping out of your comfort zone places you into your power zone. They met through the Powerful Steps Business Attraction Program and have been in each other’s tribe ever since empowering women in leadership roles around the world by sharing insights and powerful connections.   Anna is responsible for telling the inside stories for the world’s leading CEOs and entrepreneurs like Elle McPherson and Gina Rinehart. What are the 3 key leaderships traits Anna has seen when interviewing female entrepreneurs? ‘Trust is at the top’, says Anna ‘trusting that your team will do what they set out to do and also, trusting in yourself to lead them.’ Becoming humble is the second trait. Elle McPherson once wrote, “Everyone has their strengths and weakness. Successful partnerships rely on recognising, respecting and enabling each other’s strengths for the good of the business.” And the final trait – compassion. ‘Compassion as it is crucial to understanding, and relating to, the people you work with’ says Anna.    Heart vs ego is a hot topic in the leadership game. ‘Today, more than ever, there needs to be a balance’ says Anna, ‘the heart of your business are your people so, you need to know the heart of them.’ A really good global leader will have a vision of where the business is headed, even during the difficult times we are facing. ‘It’s important to know how to empower your people. There is no micro-managing involved with being a global leader superhero.’   The world is becoming increasingly virtual. There are many challenges that come with running a global team. It’s vitally really important that you take time to look after yourself and your team and to keep wellness at the forefront of your mind. Lockdowns can be isolating. ‘Even just sending a coffee to a colleague and asking them for a chat is a great way to increase connectivity.’    A few years ago, everything was moving forward with CEO magazine but it was a whirlwind. ‘I needed to find a way to deal with that next phase of life,’ says Anna. ‘One of my strategies is called “the morning pages.” I would write down everything on my mind which would clear the way for me to put back in the good stuff.’ Anna then started to meditate – ‘It was the most illuminating moment of my life, other than the birth of my child’ says Anna and shares how meditation gives her power to keep moving forward.    Empowered women, empower other women. Anna has a passion for helping women find their voice and shares the joy she receives when she sees women being recognised. Christine Holgate was the first woman to win the CEO Magazine's Executive of the Year Awards in 2015. Through that award, she went on to become the CEO of Australia Post. ‘I’m just so proud that we were able to be a part of that journey’ says Anna.    So, sit back and enjoy this powerful story with the extraordinary Anna Dutton.
