07 | Jayson Gaignard: Turning Your Life Around

In today’s show, Cherry Tan interviews author, podcaster, networking specialist, Jayson Gaignard.

Never enthused by academics, Jayson dropped out of high school to become an automotive mechanic. After this, Jayson ran a personal concierge business for a bit before pivoting into the eCommerce business. This was a bitter-sweet experience for Jayson because while he tasted commercial success, this was a business that he did not enjoy at all.

In 2011, this business went downhill leaving Jayson newly married with a six-month-old daughter and a quarter of million dollars in debt.

Jayson talks about his mental health struggles at this point in his life. Grappling with suicidal thoughts, Jayson managed to pull himself back together just in time. He talks about the various emotions that raced through his mind at this point – emotions too complex to process.

In the next segment of the show, Jayson shares how the idea for Mastermind Talks (MMT) came into being. While attending a Seth Godin conference, Jayson managed to assemble dinner for eight entrepreneurs – only to realize how much he loved it. Leveraging his social capital, this small event eventually laid the base for the large and sought-after MMT events for today.

Here, Jayson draws some interesting parallels between his previous eCommerce business and his current one. He hated every aspect of his eCommerce business in spite of it being a profitable one. In contrast, Jayson reveals how his passion for Mastermind Talks drives him to put in his best. And how he is in a much better mental space because he is doing what he truly loves to do.

Other topics discussed on today’s show include displaying vulnerability, increasing social isolation in the tech world, advocating mental health awareness, and much, much more…
