Study Reveals Michigan Mastodon’s Past
Two mastodon skeletons grace the entrance of University of Michigan’s Natural History Museum. The larger of the two is a male discovered in Fort Wayne, Indiana in the late 1990s. A new study co-authored by paleontologist Dan Fisher analyzed chemical elements in the mastodon’s tusk to paint a clearer picture of where the creature roamed, grazed, and mated in parts of Indiana and Michigan. He joins the show today to share what he's discovered about the mastodon’s 34 years of life.
