What Everyone Should Know About Back Pain

In the first episode of this mini-series, Rob and Dave begin the discussion about what everyone should know about back pain by looking at pain. Pain is real for anyone who is suffering with it but Dave and Rob explain why it doesn’t always mean damage and how the brain can both up-regulate and down-regulate the experience of pain. Listen in and learn how your experience of pain is impacted by your prior experience and attitude and how to make positive changes.   KEY TAKEAWAYS People equate pain with damage but this is not necessarily the case The definition of pain is an unpleasant sensory or emotional experience in relation to actual or potential tissue damage When your brain perceives a potential threat the only way it can tell you is by creating pain Pain is totally controlled by the brain and your brain can up-regulate and down-regulate pain signals The brain takes into account many factors including previous experiences Your brain can override if it has something else it’s focusing on We all have the ability to reduce  pain we just have to learn how to harness it There are many different nerves in the body and they are activated by different stimulus. All information from your nerves is sent to the brain where it is decoded Having pain doesn’t mean there is any damage The brain can up-regulate or down-regulate what you experience, based on your experience, outlook and attitude Pain can have many, many triggers but the pain is real and the experience of it is the same You can manage pain and there are lots of ways to do this.   BEST MOMENTS ‘Your pain is real, if you are feeling pain it is real’ ‘You are able to influence how you react to and manage your pain’ ‘Pain is real for anybody who is suffering from it   EPISODE RESOURCES Monty Lymans Book - The Painful Truth Link  https://amzn.to/3j0lHhZ Sticks and stones book  http://www.therapteuticalliance.com/store/p2/sticksandstones.html   FINDING SOMEONE TO HELP YOU WITH YOUR BACK PAIN https://thebackpainpodcast.com/index.php/members-map/   VALUABLE RESOURCES The Back Pain Podcast The Back Pain Podcast website The Back Pain Podcast recommended products affiliate link Our Rode Mixer https://amzn.to/3waU8bx Our Microphones https://amzn.to/3rzSZ9Z Second Microphone https://amzn.to/2ObKMeA XLR Cable https://amzn.to/3rBL8ZB Studio Headphones https://amzn.to/3u082LE Laptophttps://amzn.to/3dhfafT Our webcam https://amzn.to/31uUefQ    ABOUT THE HOSTS Dave Elliott Dave is the owner of Advanced Chiropractic, a chain of Chiropractic and massage therapy clinics in Essex, UK.
