Talking Their Language with Richard Harwood

This week we are joined by Richard Harwood. Richard enjoyed a successful career in Financial Services before moving into semi-retirement and spending more time on his Charity commitments. During his career Richard ran several financial services businesses, including two at the same time over several years, starting two from scratch before selling them on and managing teams both offshore and in the UK.Alongside his career, Richard has been a prolific charity fundraiser and is now responsible for running Holidays for Heroes Jersey, which in 2022 brought over 400 wounded veterans and their families to Jersey for a well-earned break. That season has just concluded with the visit of seven WWII veterans. As a podcast host, I shouldn’t really talk about my favourite episodes, but this one is up there for sure. Mainly because Richard strikes me as one of life’s truly decent human beings. He was incredibly humble, and at the same time shared so much wisdom that we can all use to be better leaders and managers. The highlights for me were hearing about how he changed the communication style, his opening words in every performance review and how he felt a little lazy towards the end of his career when his team no longer needed him. Before we get into this episode, head over to the Online Course page of my website - www.ben-morton.com - where you can sign up for my 10-4-10 Leadership Course.
