Mary's swamped at WJM-TV, so she hires a secretary: Phyllis! But what started as a good idea quickly becomes a mistake, as Phyllis proves to be terrible at her job. When Mary has to fire her, Phyllis lets her true colours shine in a way we did not anticipate. We discuss the abject insecurity of being "just" a wife and mother that seems to influence much of Phyllis's character, the roles women are socialized to play, the pressure put upon women to be and do everything, the myth of the work-life balance, and so much more.
