This week's episode, originally recorded *checks watch* last June(?!), definitely reads differently in our current climate. Rhoda is unceremoniously fired from her job and spends a week loafing around, mildly depressed, on Mary's couch. Mary tries to be encouraging but winds up not pushing her at all to find a new job, whereas Phyllis leans into the tough love approach with little self-awareness. In the end, she finds the perfect job and everything's great! Meanwhile, the conversation in this particularly digressive episode, Ariel talks about the life-changing impact of losing a job that crushes your soul, the scary reality of working as a full-time freelancer in our current (read, 2019) economy, and how hard it can be to bounce back from being fired.
