Cryotherapy - the next big thing for athlete recovery?

Have you ever used ice to treat an injury? Using cold as a means of physical treatment is a practice that has been studied and used since the age of the ancient Egyptians, 4000 years ago. New treatment technologies over time have led us to cryotherapy, which is what many professional athletes used now days. Whole body cryotherapy only takes 3 minutes and the chamber temperature is set to between 110 to -160 ̊C below zero. This months AISTS Sports Medicine podcast by Gustavo Arellano and Fabio Franceschi delves a little deeper into this treatment and talks about the use of cryotherapy in sports, how it works, its effectiveness and also its possible side effects.
