Duelling citizenships
This week we examine Finland's debate over dual citizenship. Is the government going to change the current regime? Why do some regard certain groups of dual citizens as more acceptable than others? In fact, no nationalities are subject to a blanket ban, but for some tasks a security check looks at foreign links of individuals and decides on a case-by-case basis. In addition, a presenter stated that Russia requires people to renounce previous citizenships in order to acquire Russian citizenship. This is no longer the case, since changes to the legislation took effect last year.
