All Things Magic, OG MTV and Unpopular Opinions

TOPIC:

We’re back… with more treats from Thailand! This week we’re hanging out and catching up. We start by swapping weekend stories, including a trip to The Magic Castle, which lands us on the topic of all things magic! First off, where’s it been and why don’t we know more people in the magic industry? We explore different types and categories of magic, and Corinne shares an exciting magic experience featuring David Blaine and Dave Brown.

Then, Corinne and Natalie reminisce on OG TV shows like Next — which could have been an inspiration for dating apps — and the extreme amount of money each Extreme Makeover costs. This spirals into an exploration of TV categories from the 2000s and now, and of course, that includes a recap of the drama from this season of Love is Blind.

OUR HOSTS:

Corinne Foxx - @corinnefoxx

Natalie McMillan - @nataliemcm and @shopnataliemcmillan

What we're drinking: Chrysanthemum Chamomile with Honey Drink from Thailand

What we're eating: Coconut Puff Cake Pandan with Dewberry Filling and Coconut Crispy Roll from Thailand

In this episode, we discuss:

  • A taste test of treats from Thailand (thanks Moss!)
  • Weekend updates involving Santa Barbara, The Magic Castle, and weddings
  • Why we don’t talk about magic and where it went after the early 2000s
  • Corinne’s magic experience with David Blaine and Dave Brown
  • A look back at Next and Extreme Makeover (Home Edition)
  • Popular reality TV categories: unseen marriage, weird TLC shows, rich drama
  • Unpopular Opinions about the anxieties of modern TV and the Best Movie of All Time

END OF THE SHOW:

Corinne and Natalie introduce Hottie of the Week: David Blaine

DRINK RATING:

Chrysanthemum Chamomile with Honey Drink from Thailand  = 9 / David

WRAP UP:

To wrap up the episode, we’re playing Unpopular Opinion. Corinne thinks modern TV is hard to watch (unless you binge), and Natalie is offended that Citizen Kane is listed as the Best Movie of All Time, especially in comparison to the first color movie of all time, The Wizard of Oz.

Om Podcasten

Each week, our hosts, Corinne Foxx and Natalie McMillan, cheers to the uncertainty of adulthood. And by “cheers,” they are being quite literal. A glass of wine (or two) makes this life “how to” podcast feel more like casual, after-work drinks with your best friend than a lengthy lecture. Budding business owners and best friends, Corinne and Natalie know first hand how hard it is to navigate life’s biggest milestones, from completing your first tax return to buying your first home. They often find themselves calling each other for advice, frequently asking, “Am I Doing This Right?” And thus a sisterhood of common confusion has been born. Am I Doing This Right? is not a your typical “how to” podcast. Why? Well, Corinne and Natalie aren’t experts - in fact, they’re far from it. They’re just two best friends with 26 years of life experience, and a whole lot of questions about today’s rapidly changing world. For example, How do I start my own business? Should I buy or lease my car? How do we survive student debt? What’s the best Hinge profile strategy? How do I balance work life and my personal life? Do I really need a 401k? The goal isn’t to provide all the answers, but to bring comfort to our audience knowing they aren’t the only ones asking the same questions. This evergreen podcast will act as a guide book for young people on how to kickstart their adulthood. This “learning along the way” approach makes this podcast less of a Ted Talk and more of a happy hour. For more life advice, follow us on Instagram: @amidoingthisrightpod Have a life question?
