“It’s not just social media companies or your right to be on Twitter, your right to be on Facebook. It’s everything. Email delivery services, online fundraising platforms … It’s every aspect of your digital life,” says Heritage Foundation research fellow Kara Frederick.From Twitter to GoFundMe, digital platforms have shut down accounts, fundraisers, or online transactions and removed people from aspects of digital life because of their political views. “These practices are frankly mirroring that of what China does in the social credit system,” she says.Frederick previously served as a senior intelligence analyst for the U.S. Naval Special Warfare Command, and spent six years as a counterterrorism analyst at the Department of Defense.
