Protecting Water In Colombia
The U’wa indigenous people guard the Cocuy National Park, the largest expanse of glaciers in Colombia. Their mission is to protect the original source of water. Correspondent Michelle Begue visited them to find out more about their philosophy and growing concern about climate change. On this episode of the Americas Now Podcast, Begue discusses the work of the U’wa nation and other champions of nature. She talks about the flow of water in Colombia from the top of snowy mountain peaks to high-altitude wetlands and to rivers that feed mangrove forests on the Atlantic coast. Most of the scientists, activists and artists she met were female environmentalists.
