EXTRA! / FEB 2021 / Interview with Raquel Castro (Lisboa Soa)
In 2003, a video project about oral memory made her travel around Portugal and live in several regions of the country, collecting voices, images, sounds, and children's drawings. She began to think about the way sound relates to the identity of these places and this idea was the starting point of a wide range of activities related to sound and the environment. She holds a Ph.D. in Communication and Arts about Sound, Space, and Acoustic Identity (New University of Lisbon). Among other films, she directed the documentary Soundwalkers which was presented at Subtropics Festival in Miami and screened at various conferences of sound and film festivals. She is currently working on a new documentary series called "Soa", to be broadcasted by RTP2 in 2020. As a curator, Raquel is the founder and director of Invisible Places International Symposium and the environmental sound art festival Lisboa Soa. Currently, she is a post-doc researcher at CICANT - Centre for Research in Applied Communication, Culture and New Technologies under the project “Aural Experience, Territory and Community”, funded by FCT. www.lisboasoa.com www.invisibleplaces.org
