And it can even help to improve cognitive function. Stephen Flinn is a true professional who has been teaching for over three decades and has given over 25,00 drum and piano lessons, and facilitated over 2,000 special needs percussion ensemble classes. Piano and percussion lessons with an emphasis on positive communication, social skills, and academic concepts. Piano: Teaching piano using an alternative notation system that makes it much easier for the student to read than standard notation. The lessons are designed for cognitive development, ocular motor strengthening, fine motor strengthening, and social skills. The lessons are big fun too! Percussion: These lessons are successful in addressing cognitive, emotional, and physical goals. Through inventive multi-sensory exercises the lessons teach and enhance skills such as maintaining focus, using memory, sequencing, reading, laterality, recognition and use of numbers, spatial awareness, fine and gross motor coordination, following instructions, and positive communication. Through a perceptual motor match: VISUAL, TACTILE, and AUDITORY combined with speech (good for not yet verbal students too), the student sees the lessons, feels it, and hears it as they say the answers out loud.
