Episode 73 - Edge Networking Special
In this 1 hour long themed episode of AWS TechChat, I am joined by Dean Samuels, as we sail to the Edge and demystify many of the core concepts that occur before end-user requests arrive on your resources. We started the show setting down a foundation of DNS, why its important, oh so important, before talking about Amazon Route 53 which is our highly available and scalable cloud DNS Service. It’s a full featured DNS service that is API, SDK and CLI driven. Its just awesome. We then introduced the concept of CDN(Content Delivery Networks), I would argue in 2020 they are equally as important. We spoke about Amazon CloudFront, which speeds up the distribution of your static and dynamic web content. We deliver this content through a worldwide network of data centers called Edge locations. Amazon CloudFront allows you to run Lambda functions at the edge, Lambda@Edge is an extension of Lambda that lets you execute functions that customize the content that Amazon CloudFront delivers. Before closing out the show with AWS Global Accelerator, which is a service that improves the availability and performance of your applications with local or global users. It provides static IP addresses that act as a fixed entry point to your application endpoints in a single or multiple AWS Regions.
