Episode 225 – Agile As Artistry

If you want to follow the agile or scrum manual or worship the rules, you can't be an artist. An artist expresses their opinion, their creative contribution, or their vision with the tools of their medium. By definition, your art must be an original. Nobody else could make the exact same thing. Artistry involves discovery, failure, and risk. What you make might not work right away. It might require sweat and continuous refinement. It might force you to admit that you don't know everything. It might take you to unexplored and dangerous places. Doesn't that sound like agile? Without these elements, you're applying a recipe. You're blindly implementing best practices and rules. There is no room to create something new that serves the distinct character of your team, your client, or their customer.
