Born in 1959 in Matanzas, Cuba, Magda recently received the ARTnews Lifetime Achievement Award for her contributions to art. Last year, she was honored with a MacArthur Fellowship, and she is currently the Cornelius Vanderbilt Endowed Chair Professor of Fine Arts at Vanderbilt University.
