197. Battleground '44 - The Battle of Arnhem

This week on Battleground '44, Patrick discusses with Saul the Battle of Arnhem, part of perhaps the most famous Allied airborne operation of the Second World War - Operation Market Garden. Fought in the German-occupied Netherlands from 17 to 26 September 1944, the bridge in Arnhem was the final objective of a plan to create a 64 mile salient into German territory and create an Allied invasion route into northern Germany. Together they look at the flaws in the planning and execution of the operation, along with some of the extraordinary stories of heroism that emerged from the battle itself.
