My Journey Through Medicine, Why I Left Residency, The Good, The Bad & The Ugly.

A few months ago my good friend Aleah Thompson, MD recorded a podcast episode with me to help me talk about my story. After the recording I got cold feet and decided I didn't want to share something so personal with the world. Partly, because I felt insecure about my story and partly because I didn't know how people would react to it. I believe I have reached a point where I am comfortable enough with my story and path that I'm okay with releasing it. Also, I really just want to start conversation about some really important topics. Topics that are being swept under the rug because of taboo. There a topics of discussion in this recording that are particularly important because they of the harm that it causes many medical students and residents. I know, because I was one of those people who was badly hurt. And I know, I'm not the only one. It's been almost a year since I left residency. My life has taken quite a turn and i've been pretty lucky with how things have turned out. Still, there's a lot to unpack about my story and i thought some transparency might help some people. My story is just my story. I shared as much as i felt comfortable sharing in hopes that it can start a conversation amongst our community or maybe help other people contemplating similar decisions and to feel less shame or fear.
