Oscar De La Hoya Jeopardizing Davis-Ryan Garcia? + Ajagba Wins Dull Decision, etc.! | Fight Freaks Unite Recap

It's the latest edition of the show, as we have fight news regarding the possible jeopardizing of the Gervonta Davis-Ryan Garcia proposed mega-bout that's supposed to happen in April. Plus, we're here to recap the Top Rank Boxing Heavyweight card in Verona, NY, as Efe Ajagba won a dull decision over Stephan Shaw Saturday night. It's all part of the "Fight Freaks Unite Recap" podcast. Host T.J. Rives returns with insider Dan Rafael of BigFightWeekend.com to go over it all. The first weigh in on whether Golden Boy CEO Oscar De La Hoya is truly going to cause problems for the proposed Garcia-Davis bout, because he says they don't have an agreement, as of yet. Dan has some insight from speaking with sources Sunday after De La Hoya's late night social media posts. Then, the guys discuss the Ajagba win, which did little to help his standing/ranking in the heavyweight landscape. But, more indicting is his opponent Shaw didn't take advantage of the big opportunity by even trying to score/land throughout the fight. Finally, the guys go over the passing of a former WBA Heavyweight champ in South African Gerrie Coetzee, who briefly held the title in the mid 1980's. Coetzee was also an important figure in race relations for the end of Apartheid in his country, as he developed a friendship with the famous imprisioned black leader of the racial justice movement, Nelson Mandela. Mandela was a huge boxing fan, who listened to Coetzee fights on the radio during his heavyweight title fights. Dan also has more on famous fighter birthdays this week including Muhammad Ali and Bernard Hopkins. This includes a great story about sharing a meal with Hopkins after his light heavyweight title win over Jean Pascal and what dessert that Hopkins had to have.
