MTV aired episodes of the old Monkees tv show in 1986, which was also the twentieth anniversary of the band and the tv series. It exploded and Monkeemania had returned. The following year, a tv producer wanted to capitalize on their popularity a reboot of The Monkees...The New Monkees.
