The 'Mane' Event
This chapter of Bluey Bros discusses episode 1:9, Fruit Bat. In this episode, we discuss the role that self-care plays in the life of parents and talk about Olivia Scobie's book Impossible Parenting. We talk at length about the challenge of sharing special toys and the lessons we unintentionally teach our children when we enforce sharing. We draw from Laura Markham's work that encourages parents not to enforce sharing but to focus on self-regulation, patience, and self-advocacy. We then turn to the inverting of gender roles and stereotypes that Stripe and Bandit play with all with the purpose of distracting socks to get Bluey's stuffy back.
