True Grit
This chapter of Bluey Bros refers to episode 1:11, Bike. Tim starts with a discussion of music's role in this episode. We delve into the world of the girls and home in on the persistence exemplified by Bingo, Bentley, and Muffin, as witnessed by Bandit and Bluey. We take time to discuss the role of parenting choices that avoid the hovering of helicopter parents and the obstacle-removing of lawnmower parents to offer space for our kids to develop their sense of stick-to-itiveness, grit and the various ways the kids use their capacities to persist, including problem-solving and private speech. Tim and Cory borrow from Vygotsky, Piaget, and Aristotle to make sense of this process. We also take time to distinguish between tantrums and meltdowns, which parents with neurodivergent kiddos often must make with others who may not understand.
