64. Building a brand online: 5 things I'm doing differently as a podcaster vs. blogger
Once upon a time, before Instagram existed, I ran a blog about lipsticks for 5 years. Yep, that’s right - you heard me. Lipstick!! It was called Beauty Swatch, and my tag line was “helping you find your way through the lipstick jungle”.
When I started, I went from not knowing a single thing about blogging let alone how to create a media release or work with PR. I started blogging because I wanted to learn about social media and how it can be used to influence consumer purchasing decisions.
Fast forward 5 years later, my blog won awards in the beauty journalism industry (back in the day when blogging actually involved writing rather than a pretty Instagram feed), it was featured on Forbes.com, fashion magazines like InStyle USA and I won an award for best blogger collaboration with Clinique and Mecca Maxima - an iconic beauty retailer in Australia.
It will be 10 years ago since I started the blog, and it's for the same reason I'm podcasting now - as a way to build skills to add to my talent stack.
