Press Pass with the Editor, Episode 4, June 2021
In this podcast series called Press Pass with the Editor, we will be your front row access to what’s happening in the performance world. This monthly circus news podcast is brought to you by Circus Voices podcast network via CircusTalk. In each episode we’ll be exploring changes in the circus sector, impactful news in the performing arts world, as well as information about upcoming shows and events from around the world for the coming month. We’ll take a look at all parts of the circus world, from circus job listings to circus education and business, plus more. In the June episode of Press Pass, we cover the news about Cirque du Soleil's comeback, what is happening in Australian and Vietnamese circus, and the increase in new circus jobs showing a hopeful trend. We hear from contributor and associate editor Madeline Hoak on why she wanted to create the Circus Bodies series, and from associate editor Lydia Nord on the coverage we will be doing of circus graduates in June. She also takes a minute to speak to one San Diego Circus Center graduate who has adapted to the pandemic by going to Harvard after graduating circus school! Then I sit down for a talk with casting director (and head coach) Francisco Cruz of The 7 Fingers to hear his sage and encouraging advice for new graduates entering the circus work force. Spoiler alert: He is a huge fan of up and coming circus artists and follows everyone on social media!
