Episode 178 - The Conversation
"The Conversation" 1974 is a mystery drama from Francis Ford Coppola. As Screenwriter, Producer and Director Mr. Coppola created an excellent film that was nominated for three Academy Awards including Best Picture. It lost the Best Picture award to "The Godfather II" another film from Mr. Coppola. Gene Hackman plays Harry Caul a well-known surveillance professional. During an assignment he discovers a possible murder plot involving a couple and a CEO. In the past Harry's recordings may have resulted in the murder of three people and that memory haunts him. Because of that experience and other events Harry leads a solitary life focused on work and playing his saxophone. This engaging film is enhanced by Cindy Williams as Ann and Frederic Forrest as Mark who are the couple at the center of the mystery. Harrison Ford as Martin Stett, Robert Duvall as the Director and the entire cast and music by David Shire contributes to this outstanding film.
