“Cultural Appropriation... Classically it can be applied to Tantra. Tantra is an incredible tool, an incredible technology to unlock the power that’s hidden within you & you do that through several different yogic practices: Sadhana, mantras, yantra and meditation, movement; several different things that can invoke this power - this energy to rise up so that you’re fully conscious of who you are and your purpose here on this earth. That’s basically what Tantra is all about but, you know, cultural appropriation and the western indoctrination... The power has been so related to your sexual power, because a lot of times when we feel this energy moving within us, it does move into these spaces that are sexual: your womb space, your yoni, all these different parts within you: your Svashisthana (or sacral) chakra which is responsible for creation and creativity. So what has happened that this energy has been mistaken for sexual acts, sexual practices and sacred sexuality. Nothing is wrong with that - but that’s cultural appropriation to the T. Like you’ve taken just what is sacred and applied it to just have good sex or to get great orgasms or sometimes it’s even shameful in saying that you know, ‘this has helped me reach to different levels of consciousness and have great sex with different sex partners.’ I think that’s so ignorant.
