The Chinese regime is banging the drums of war. Outside China, it’s becoming more aggressive. In the South China Sea, it’s growing more daring in its disputes with the Philippines. In trade, its diplomats are aggressively trying to expand in new markets. Politically, its diplomats have been on the offensive. Yet, behind the scenes, there is a very different picture. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is reorganizing its military, but the demand is for loyalty to the Party. The same calls for loyalty are being issued within the ranks of the CCP’s leadership. But even more telling, there are signs the CCP has a growing fear of its middle-class citizens. So what’s really going on, and what’s behind this new push for loyalty to the Party?
