Hezbollah, the Lebanese political party, paramilitary organization, and US-designated terrorist group, has been a powerful force in Lebanon and the surrounding Middle East since the group’s inception in the early 80s. Lesser known are their criminal operations on the other side of the planet in Venezuela. Today I’ll be speaking with Alexis Bowen and Emma Palmberg from CTG’s Illicit Finance & Economic Threats team to learn about how Hezbollah was able to gain a foothold in Venezuela, what kinds of criminal activities they’re participating in, and what the geopolitical implications are for Venezuela, South America, and the world more broadly.
