Building Curious Leaders: Exploring Cantonese Culture with Ms. Jenny Liao

In this podcast episode, we embark on an adventure into Cantonese culture and cuisine with Ms. Jenny Liao, author of the popular book, Everyone Loves Lunchtime But Zia.  We start by exploring the unique ingredients and cooking techniques used in Cantonese cuisine, and how they reflect the region's location and geography.  Ms. Liao also shares some of her favorite family traditions rooted in Cantonese culture.  We learn about the book's main character, Zia, who finds herself feeling frustrated and left out when she brings her family's Cantonese dishes to school.  She eventually learns about the meaning and importance of each dish and finds the courage to share them with her peers. We also share an important message to our listeners that taking curiosity and interest in other people's differences is what builds a community where all children can be accepted just as they are.   By the end of the episode, listeners will have gained a deeper appreciation for Cantonese cuisine and culture, and hopefully, feel inspired to explore new foods and traditions with their own families. Whether you're a seasoned foodie or a curious beginner, this episode is sure to satisfy your appetite for adventure and learning!
