In this week’s market report, Andrew & Ben discuss how tense the world is becoming, with news of Russia bombing grain facilities in Ukraine for a fourth day in a row and seizing ships, resulting in a key part of the global food chain being affected. The price of wheat has gone up to £20, and India has banned the export of non-basmati white rice to curb domestic inflation, which is raising fears of further increases in global food prices, just days after wheat and corn prices have climbed. In terms of the weather forecast, the rain is not stopping any time soon! The St Swithin’s folklore is proving to be correct for another year, with the forecast not looking promising, therefore causing worry within the grain trade and to farmers across the UK.Ben discusses how volatile the rapeseed market is and expresses his concern for the quality of the crop due to bizarre hail storms which have hit rapeseed fields hard across Norfolk. This volatility has come from the heat in America, which is causing issues not only in the U.S. but across the globe. The biggest questions of this week are “Is now the perfect selling opportunity?” and “What is Russia going to do next?”. Andrew discusses his feelings of worry, and hope and how he is feeling philosophical about the state of the current grain market, but urges grain traders, store owners, and farmers not to worry about what they can’t control. In the farm chat, Andrew & Vince discuss future plans that they have, including possibly offering accounting services to farmers. With Vince’s expertise in assisting the agricultural trade with their accounting needs, this could be an exciting move for Dewing Grain.
