Today is the most important day in the Buddhist calendar: Vesak / Visakha Puja, celebrating the birth, Supreme Awakening, and final Parinibbāna of the Buddha. As it's also Mother's Day in the Western calendar, Ajahn Dhammasiha speaks about the birth of the Bodhisatta, and the marvellous qualities of the Bodhisatta and his mother. Strictly speaking, we shouldn't refer to him as the 'Buddha' at his birth, but rather as the 'Bodhisatta', as he wasn't enlightened yet.
