After a scoreless first period, the Avalanche got second period goals from Artturi Lekhonen and Nathan MacKinnon to take a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes. Roope Hintz’s power play goal early in the third period cut the Stars’ deficit to one, but then Colorado scored three times in the final seven minutes to pull away and claim the victory. Devon Toews, MacKinnon’s second on an empty net and Charlie Coyle all tallied late in the third period for the Avs, who take a 1-0 series lead with Game 2 scheduled for Monday night in Dallas.
