Yo-Yo Ma on the Rio Grande

Why is cellist Yo-Yo Ma playing Bach on the banks of the Rio Grande-Rio Bravo along the U.S.-Mexico border, and why are poets and environmentalists talking about it? We speak with Tricia Cortez, executive director of the Rio Grande International Study Center, about the event and her work to protect the "ribbon of life" that sustains millions of people, plants and animals. The prescient Carol Reposa, Texas's 2018 poet laureate, shares her inspiration of how Yo-Yo Ma and other artists could use their gifts to stop conflict in its tracks. Special thanks to Warren Lawrence, who operated the control room; Nicole Rothwell, who edited this episode; Connor Button, who created our theme music; and Radio Kingston, for opening its studio and airwaves to us.
