Emma Foss - From shepherd to hypnotherapist; helping rural mental health

This special episode comes from our mates at the REX (Rural Exchange) podcast — New Zealand’s go-to show for everything agribusiness and rural news. In this episode, host Dom George talks with 2021 Fairlight Foundation graduate Emma Foss. They discuss her background growing up on a sheep and beef farm and completing a Bachelor of Agriculture Science degree at Massey University before accepting the Fairlight internship, an intensive year-long programme for women which aims to provide a launchpad for future leaders in agriculture. They also talk about her first shepherding job following the internship and her struggles with mental health, which eventually led her to pursuing a career in hypnotherapy as a way to help others in the rural industry.
