New York City Gears Up for New Year’s Eve; Carter Expected to Lie in State at Capitol
Times Square in New York City got a special New Year’s Eve preview when organizers tested the iconic crystal ball. The ball drop has been a New Year’s Eve staple in Times Square for 120 years. NYPD and city authorities will be on full alert and will implement a range of security measures ahead of Dick Clark’s iconic New Year’s Rockin’ Eve show. Former President Jimmy Carter is expected to lie in state at the U.S. Capitol while memorial services proceed. The ceremonies for Carter’s funeral will begin on Jan. 4, and he will be buried in Plains, Georgia, on Jan. 9. NTD spoke with Nicholas Giordan0, a professor of political science at Suffolk Community College. He discusses Carter’s legacy and some of the issues he faced during his presidency. Russia and Ukraine conducted a prisoner swap on Monday after a deal was coordinated by the United Arab Emirates and other partners.
