Woman Burned to Death in NYC Subway Identified; Massive Power Outage Leaves Puerto Rico in the Dark

New York City police have identified the woman who was set on fire and burned to death in a subway train car earlier this month. She was Debrina Kawam, a 57-year-old homeless woman from Toms River, New Jersey. New York City Mayor Eric Adams addressed the incident Tuesday. A power outage in Puerto Rico left 90 percent of the population without electricity early Tuesday, affecting nearly 1.4 million customers. The governor blamed a critical grid failure, and Luma Energy said full restoration could take up to 48 hours. U.S. investigators have joined the probe into Sunday’s deadly Jeju Air crash at Muan Airport, which killed 179 people. The crash, involving a Boeing 737-800, is South Korea’s deadliest aviation disaster in decades. In the latest twist in what’s become the key U.S. ally’s deepest political crisis in decades, a South Korean court has authorized the arrest of impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol.
