Face the Nation on the Radio 9/12

On this week's "Face the Nation," we'll discuss President Biden's new vaccine requirements with former FDA commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb. Meanwhile, the GOP plans to sue the Biden administration over the president's executive orders to require Covid vaccinations for as many as 100 million people in the US. GOP Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel will tell us why she thinks the mandate is “unconstitutional.” With CDC data showing child hospital admissions are higher in states with lower population vaccination, how are hospitals dealing with the surge in pediatric patients? We'll hear from Texas Children's Hospital Pathologist-In-Chief Dr. James Versalovic. Kids comprise more than one in four new COVID-19 cases across the U.S. New reports indicate the Pfizer vaccine could be approved by the FDA for use in children between 5-11 by the end of October. CBS's Mark Strassmann reports. There are concerns mounting on Capitol Hill about an upcoming right-wing rally in the nation's capital, how are lawmakers preparing for potential unrest following the January 6 attack? We'll talk ton Rep. Liz Cheney. (R-WY.) According to U.S intelligence officials, the Taliban claiming victory in Afghanistan is emboldening jihadist extremists and fueling propaganda. Charlie D'Agata reports that sources on the ground say "al Qaeda is intrinsically linked with the Taliban." The FBI released a report Saturday that shows September 11 hijackers had contact with Saudi Arabia associates in the U.S., though it did not include evidence that the Saudi gov't was complicit. Holly Williams is in Riyadh with a look at how the country is fighting extremism. CIA Deputy Director Michael Morell and Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) discuss the fight against terrorism 20 years after 9/11. Finally, 20 years ago, the terror attacks on 9/11 illustrated some of the worst humanity has to offer. But in reaction, some of the best -- courage in the face of danger, unity at an intensely divisive moment. "Face the Nation" moderator Margaret Brennan has more on how a politically divided US could use more unity today.
