The 317th Platoon (1965)

Pierre Schoendoerffer's 1965 film 'The 317th Platoon' follows an ill-fated French platoon as they attempt to reach a village held by friendly forces during the final days of the battle of Bien Dien Phu. Shot in black and white in Cambodia around the time of the U.S. ramping up their military involvement in Vietnam, the film depicts jungle combat with a stark realism often unseen in Western cinema of that era.
