FMOOD 0273: Adventures in Minimalism

We're picking back up with the habit of practicing minimalism, and it has been great. My wife and I started this a long time ago, but we didn't really stick with it the first time around and ended up getting off track. I think part of the reason was because we were trying to do too much at the same time and weren't as focused as we should have been. This time, we decided to do things a bit differently.   Rather than taking on the entire house and its contents all at the same time, we decided to start in a more focused way of doing things and concentrate on our closets first. By only focusing on this specific area, we were able to decrease the clutter quite a bit. I'd estimate that we ended up donating or discarding more clutter this time around than the first time that we had decided to do this. We noticed right away that taking a more granular approach to getting rid of what we no longer need didn't seem nearly as overwhelming and produced better results.   We ended up with several bags of clothing for donation and several bags of discarded items that went out to the trash. I also decided that it was time to sell an older gaming system that had been sitting around and collecting dust, so we got a chance to earn a little extra money for this month during this process. In my opinion, this makes it a little more fun when you can sell some things on Facebook or Craigslist and discard, declutter, and earn a little extra money all at the same time.   If you haven't already tried practicing minimalism, even on a smaller scale to start out with, I highly recommend doing so. It is amazing the freedom that you'll feel with the renewed space that you'll discover by discarding what you no longer need. You'll have more time and energy to focus on the things that truly matter, and you may even be able to make a few extra dollars to boot! God bless.
