Amanda Litman: Run for Something

Amanda Litman is the co-founder and executive director of Run for Something, an organization that supports and provides tools necessary for young, progressive Americans to launch local campaigns of their own. Since its founding in 2017, Run for Something has recruited 60,000 people to run for local office across the country, endorsed nearly 1,000 candidates, and has seen the successful election of 304 of these, 54% of whom are women, 47% people of color, and 18% LGBTQ. Prior to launching Run for Something, she was the email director (no, not those emails) for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, deputy email director for Organizing for Action, and an email writer for Barack Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign. Today, she's also the author of a book and host of a podcast by the same name, both which document her journey in politics and highlight the inspiring journeys of some of her Run for Something candidates. In this episode, Amanda and I discuss the importance of local elections, how Run for Something’s candidates are changing the landscape of American politics, and her best advice for coping with the upcoming election month.
