Generation VHS: Small Soldiers, New Beginnings

It's time to dust off your VCR, grab a Pizza Hut personal pan pizza and a Surge and join Cory Woodroof and Charlie Ridgely for the first episode of Generation VHS and a look at the Joe Dante film, Small Soldiers. What is this podcast, you say? Well, every week, Cory and Charlie will hop into a time machine and go back to the distant lands of the 1990s and 2000s and examine some of the stranger, deeper cut family films from that era. Basically, we're not doing The Lion King. If Disney is making a billion-dollar reboot of that film, it's been discussed enough. Instead, we want to give a new generation of nostalgia its fair day in court to determine if it's worth its mettle on a revisit. We've heard for years and years how the family films from the 80s pass this litmus test; what about the family films from the 90s and 00s? This first episode will feature a series overview from Woodroof and Ridgely and dive into Joe Dante's Small Soldiers. The guys discuss its past, its fascinating metatextual themes, the toy tie-in craze of the 90s and its place in the hallowed halls of Generation VHS. Be sure to follow us on Twitter @GenVHS and offer feedback in the form of a review if you like the show! Be kind, rewind, and we'll see you next time!
