Trigger Warning: Meeting My Inner Child Through Somatic Parts Work

In this deeply raw and vulnerable podcast episode, I am guided through a transformative somatic parts work session by Jill Marie Howell, an emotional health coach, speaker, and somatic practitioner. Jill, who has overcome C-PTSD, chronic pain, and complex trauma, creates a safe and compassionate space for me to meet my inner child—a tender, wounded part of myself that has long been buried beneath layers of pain and survival strategies. This emotional journey was as challenging as it was healing, as I confronted deep fears and unmet needs while extending love and compassion to the younger version of myself. Jill’s expertise lies in helping women rewire their nervous systems, release stored tension and trauma, and transform their relationship with stress through somatic awareness, physiological release, movement, and brain retraining. Her gentle guidance in this session allowed me to reconnect with my body, where so many unprocessed emotions from trauma had been stored. Somatic parts work is a powerful modality for trauma survivors because it allows us to bridge the gap between our body and mind, where so many unprocessed experiences are stored. Trauma often leaves us feeling fragmented, disconnected from ourselves and our inner world. By engaging with these "parts" of us—like the inner child—we begin to integrate the pieces, creating a sense of wholeness and safety within. The body becomes a safe space for emotions to surface, be acknowledged, and ultimately, be healed. This session reminded me of the incredible power of self-compassion. Meeting my inner child was not easy, but it was profoundly healing. For trauma survivors, this work is life-changing because it provides an opportunity to rewrite the narratives we’ve carried for so long. It allows us to honor the experiences that shaped us, release the shame and guilt we’ve held, and step into a more authentic and empowered version of ourselves.
