In the movie "The Dark Knight," the Joker asks "You wanna know how I got theses scars?" It seems like no one in Gotham is immune to scarification. Some are scarred physically, some scarred mentally and many scarred both ways. Burns, lost hands, lost eyes, and mental scar-tissue are all dealt out in the process of getting a knife.
