Ep 6 Lord Michael Spencer – British Businessmen and Philanthropist

From his early beginnings studying physics at university to fulfilling his passion working in the stock market , to starting a small derivative desk at Charles Fulton to arbitrage between the cash and the futures markets, Michael’s 30-year financial career took off, and he became a major player in the City of London.  Spencer founded his own business ICAP, which generated over £543m in revenue and was among the first to employ female brokers in the City. He has held stakes in numerous public and private companies and was also the treasurer of the Conservative party from 2006-2010. ‘Spens’ is renowned for his philanthropic efforts including the annual ICAP Charity Day which has raised over £140 million and backed 2,200 charitable projects and as the founder and trustee of the Borana Conservation Trust for critically endangered species in Kenya.
