Episode 4 - Joe D'Amico | To-Jo Mushrooms

During the great depression In 1932, Joe D’Amico’s great grandfather purchased a stone quarry in Avondale, PA which had existing mushroom houses on the property. While working as a mason on the quarry and trying to provide for his family, he decided to use the existing mushrooms and started growing mushrooms and called it To-Jo Mushrooms. Four generations later, Joe and his brother have taken the once small family business to now delivering 850,000 pounds of mushroom each week with 425 employees. In this episode Brian and Joe talk about how he got into the family business and how culture can’t be copied. It has to start from the top down - you have to live it everyday in your actions and how you treat your employees.
