92. Grieving and Growing through TBI - Survivor & Caregiver Perspective (with Kelly Lang)

Living with brain injury is an emotional journey for the entire family. There is a grieving process that we go through, and it’s important this side is acknowledged and not ignored. Let’s dive deeper…Today, Cristabelle Braden engages in a heartfelt conversation with Kelly Lang, a brain injury survivor and caregiver to her daughter who sustained a traumatic brain injury in 2001. She is a bestselling co-author of “The Miracle Child:  Traumatic Brain Injury and Me,” co-leads the Brain Injury Association of America’s Advisory Council and serves on the Virginia Brain Injury Advisory Council, along with being a keynote speaker and many other advocacy and research projects for TBI. In this episode, she shares her story, especially as related to the grief process. We also talk about the invisibility of brain injuries and the misconceptions surrounding them, with encouragement and hope for survivors and families going through their own journeys.00:00 Intro with Cristabelle04:56 Kelly Lang's Story10:03 Navigating Recovery as a Caregiver15:03 Importance of Grief Processing20:06 Journey of Healing and Growth32:25 The Invisibility of Brain Injuries39:50 Balancing Advocacy and Personal Recovery45:08 Words of HopeConnect with Kelly: https://substack.com/@kellylang1515 | https://www.themiraclechild.org/CONNECTFind more resources, podcast episodes, & our monthly zoom support group: hopesurvives.org | @hopesurvivesHosted by Cristabelle Braden: @cristabellebraden | cristabellebraden.comListen to the intro song "Hope Survives" by Cristabelle Braden on all music streaming platforms! This podcast is for education and informational purposes only, and not intended for medical advice.
